Blast from the Past #162: Sketchbook part 2

Here are a few more things from that small sketchbook.

These first two are concept sketches for the "stone Generals" from the 2007 TMNT movie. I really like the pose in the second one.

This next drawing is my design idea for the "enviropacks" the Turtles wore in the "Fast Forward" season of the 4Kids TV show. They ended up being a lot sleeker and better integrated into the costumes in the actual show. -- PL

  1. The first one in the lower left sort of reminds me of a Thing combination with General Tragg from the original series.

At least I think that was the rock guys name from Fantastic Four.

The stone Generals always reminded me of an updated Rock Soldier...and that device Winters uses to activate them reminded me 100% of the Classic Series 'Peking Turtles' episode...

Although I'm sure that's not what the producers had in mind when writing it.

  2. -->> THIS POST IS BAD-A5% !! !!

..maybe Neil has a point about the Rock Soldiers..

but i loved the super-mystical and ' Cursed ' Aztec theme of the Generals.

Gato and Mano,Serpiente, & Aguila actually reminded me of whisps of some of the mysterious and stranger elephants of Volume four.

God .. what beautiful and cool villains !!

    O god !! !!

Hope Vaughn sees that ' Enviro - pack ' sketch.

  4. I like the proportions and designs of these stone warriors more then ones used in the movie.

Are these the only designs you did for the stone generals, any individual stone general designs (assuming there were individual stone general characters at the time of these drawings).

Also, I heard that Mirage has the shooting script for the 2007 TMNT movie, is it possible to put that up on the ninjaturtles website along with concept and character art from the movie?

  5. So awsome man!
I do really wish they would have done that second season of Fast Forward though.
Not to mention I'm still a bit bitter over Playmates not releasing that entire series of FF figures. :\
Heh even if I am one of the few people who enjoyed it.
I really do love seeing this sketch book stuff, so I hope you keep it up.

Neil, I can't speak for anyone else involved in the movie, but I can assure you that not once did the "Rock Soldiers" or anything from the "Peking Turtles" episode of the old show enter my mind while working on this concept. (I don't know if I have ever even seen that episode.) -- PL

I think these may be the only drawings I did of the stone Generals -- but if I turn up any more, I will post them. -- PL

I believe that script HAS been posted on the ninjaturtles.com site. As for the art you refer to, it's definitely something to consider. -- PL

Is the script up at the ninjaturtles.com site the "final approved Mirage script" or the "final shooting script" which is the actual final script used for the movie, I was told by Dan Berger it was the former.

Also, is there any news about the extras, if any, that may be included in the 25th anniversary collection dvd/Blu-ray release?

  10. Yo Peter,

Yeah, I know you had long ago lost interest in the old show, but I know Kevin Munroe is a Turtle fan almost hard core...so one never knows :).

BTW: If there ever is a fifth live action movie, can I offer a suggestion?

I would LOVE to offer my services to do a sort of mini documentary of it. Film anything and everything that could possibly be of interest for a future Blu-Ray release and put it together sort of like 'The Beginning' found on the Star Wars: Episode 1 DVD.

I have all the pro-sumer tools to do it, too. Including a Professional mic, 1920X1080 Full HD sony camcorder with 10 hour battery, and Vegas Pro 8. It would be a majorly fun challenge at any rate...not to mention a dream come true helping you guys out in doing it :).
