Back when I started posting these "behind the scenes" emails between me and Lloyd Goldfine, head writer on the 4Kids TMNT animated series, I kind of started halfway through the second season, around episode 45. I am not quite certain why I started there, but it is possible that the email I used for that post was the earliest one I could find at that time on my laptop.
For months, I have been meaning to boot up my dusty old desktop Mac, and see if I could find any older emails relating to the development of the 4Kids show. Today, I did just that, and was pleased to discover emails dating back to early 2002, from the beginning of the series.
I'm planning to use these -- but I am not sure if I should start doing that NOW, or continue on with the "Fast Forward" stuff and then with "Back to the Sewers" and hopefully "Turtles Forever", if I can find my notes from those projects... and once all that's done, THEN go back and start from the beginning.

I'd continue going on with the Fast Forward and Back to the Sewers episode scripts, and then go backwards to the beginning. Since you already started the FF ones it'd be nice to see them through for the moment.
ReplyDeleteLikewise since a lot of the Fast Forward concepts were unique to the series and weren't based on any comics, it's more interesting (at least to me), to see how all these Fast Forward characters and concepts came into conception.
The fact that the character Triple Threat started off as "The FAT WOMAN," blew my mind, and this is the kind of stuff I like to see.
I too would like to stay with the course and continue the Fast Forward bits. Even though Fast Forward wasn't the best season I'm more curious into why certain designs were chosen and how the fresh ideas came o be.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Scott and cloud. You could keep moving (fast) forward, and then go back to the early stuff after. That would also give us something to anticipate, now that you found those older emails. It will be quite interesting to read about the early development of the 2k3 cartoon. The first four seasons pretty much made up what I consider to be the perfect (or close to it) TMNT show.

I would suggest moving forward. curious to see if you agree with some of my notes on FF...some of which where already brought up (raph height differences for instance ) :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with the previous comments about continuing from here. It's less of an abrupt change, since if you stopped with the Fast Forward e-mails now, you'd be going back to early 2002 e-mails, then once those were finished, back AGAIN to the Fast Forward e-mails.
ReplyDeleteBetter to just stay the course. Then, when you reach the end of these newer e-mails, circle back around to the older ones. It'd be a nice way to "wrap things up", essentially starting and ending in the same era.
By the way, I've really been enjoying reading these behind-the-scenes notes! Thank you for posting them. ^_^
