Blast from the Past #70 repost: Design for "Wacky Ooze Buggy" toy

This is a neat design that Jim Lawson drew in 1994 for consideration as a TMNT vehicle for the original toy line. It never got made, but I think it would have a had a lot of "play value" -- especially if there had been something designed in so that you could make the vehicle spray ooze as you pushed it along. Or maybe not -- that probably wouldn't have gone over well with parents. -- PL

  3. I definitely woulda' wanted one.

Who figures out the mechanics on this stuff? Does the designer have to think real hard about it, or would the Playmates crew have worked out all the kinks?

  4. If it was a turtle toy I would have wanted it. For some reason this reminds me of those canisters of ooze that wee sold at the toy store and in side the ooze was a toy, like a glow in the dark turtle or splinter figure.

Typically, someone at Playmates with engineering expertise would figure out how to make a toy actually work. However, in this design, Jim actually worked out -- quite cleverly -- how some of the special features would work. -- PL
