Ask PL #3
Let's see... well, the Shredder has to be #1. He has, of course, become THE iconic adversary for the Turtles, due in large part to his huge role in the old animated series. As far as other characters go, I would have to say that the Triceratons are some of my favorite "bad guys" (even though we have seen from some events in both Vol. 4 of the Mirage comics and the new animated show, not ALL of them are bad). One character who I was originally not too excited about, but have come to really like as an enemy of the Turtles, is Hun from the new show. (And he may even be crossing over into the comics in the somewhat near future.) I also have a soft spot for the Rat King, Savanti Romero, and the Shredder's Elite Guard. -- PL
No love for Karai? =(
ReplyDeleteI always thought the Foot Clan needed more "named" characters, such as a leader for the Elite Guard or leaders for different branches of the Foot Clan's worldwide operations(i.e. Europe, China, USA, ect.).
Always wondered what your opinion was on Hun. I didn't care for him at first either, although the voice was super cool. It broke the 'muscle guy dumb' stereo type. Now he's one of my favorite characters...
ReplyDeleteHun would so rock the comics! It'd be good to see a new kind of "regular" villain for the TMNT to go up against - like how Baxter was a focus villain for Volume 2! Most of them seem to appear in an issue or two and end up dead at the end :( But I guess the way Tales is set up it doesn't really allow for it...
ReplyDeleteI think Hun would be a great addition to the baddies for TMNT.
ReplyDeleteIn the cartoon they seem to do a lot with him. He wasn't just an occasional appearance with no character development at all.
Personally I've pictured Raph wanting to take him down for some reason, dunno but it'd be interesting one on one with Hun and Raph.
"It's clobberin time!"
Oops wrong comic :P
Hun in the comics would be totally kewl. He's definatly one of my fave villians next to Karai. :D
ReplyDeleteI have to say that Bishop is one of my all time favorites. His name and profession, you gotta love the hidden meanings there.
ReplyDelete-->> ..heh ..
ReplyDeletethe Turtles' rouges gallery is second to none.
Shredder and his legacy is so excellently expanded upon anymore.. i glad for his iconography and just all around ' COOL' factor.
Aside from the Foot Faves including Karai ..there is plenty to love and loathe in between. ( Hun's design for the upcoming season is so awesome. )
Wacky to weird to the extremly vicious, extra-terrestrial, cool as hell and fun .. thanks for sharing that, Pete .. it's nice to know that you can embrace your dark side !!
Sometimes it's nice ta be one of the bad guys..
..i would like to continue to hear other peoples' faves as well.

I have a question Pete!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever thought about an animated series based off volume 1 that was targeted toward adults? I'm envisioning something in the same vein as the HBO Spawn series or Liquid Television's Aeon Flux.
Since many of the original turtle fanbase are now the 20's-30's demographic, is there any chance of something like that happening?
Dave... where did you see Hun's new design?
ReplyDeleteI really dig they way that some aspects of the TMNTverses overlap. Like some parts of the 2k3 series coming through to vol 4. Hun would be a great addition methinks! And also some parallels too, such as Raph wearing an eyepatch...
ReplyDeleteI guess my question would be, are there any plans in the future where you think you might draw an issue of Tales? Your art is awesome, I love the way you draw them turtles, and an ish by you would be sheer awesomeness!
Also, and chance of cracking that whip of yours and getting some classic pencils from Eric Talbot? And Mike Dooney too!! Whilst i'm at it, howabout some A.C Farley?
Sorry, got a little carried away there, but they be some amazing artists, and I miss their work. (Sure, we get the covers from Dooney, and the odd frontispiece from the others, but complete issues would be amazing....)

An animated series based on the original TMNT comics, and crafted in keeping with the spirit of those books, would be cool. I haven't actually seen any episodes of the Spawn or Aeon Flux series, so I can't really say if I'd want it to be like either of those. -- PL
Sorry, I forgot to answer this part of "Stephan @ The Turtle Van"'s question:
ReplyDelete"Since many of the original turtle fanbase are now the 20's-30's demographic, is there any chance of something like that happening?"
I suppose I would have to call that possible, albeit unlikely. The universe of different "takes" on the TMNT continues to expand, so... who knows? -- PL

ReplyDeleteI appreciate the kind words, and while it is not impossible that I might do an issue of TALES, it is pretty unlikely. -- PL
Tokka, since you did ask for others, I personally am very fond of Armaggon(sp?) from the Archie Universe.
ReplyDeleteWhile I too love the Shredder, he had a real sense of danger about him, as in Archie, he was the only one to really defeat the TMNT or do enough damage (Raph losing his eye) to at least make them weak to attack against Shredder...
Personally never seeing this character in any other universes cept for the video game on SNES was a bit of a disappointment. Sorry to tack on an additional question Peter, but will Armaggon ever make an appearance in any future TMNT-realted ventures? Tales of TMNT? New Series? Volume 4? Etc?

ReplyDeleteWhat I think would be an incredible 25th anniversary gift to us would be a Tales Issue done by you and Kevin...That would be...wow.
Shredder would have to be #1 for me, followed by Rat King, Savanti Romero, and Hun. I hated Bishop initially, but he grew on me.
ReplyDeleteBebop and Rocksteady also rank high on my list, mostly for nostalgia reasons.
And why, oh why, has there been no animated version of Complete Carnage yet?

Sadly, that is even more unlikely. -- PL
Thanks for the prompt answer, Peter, as sad as it makes me...
ReplyDeleteAnd can I ask, do we call you Peter, or Pete, or Mr Laird, or PL on here?
Just wondering what you prefer..

I am happy to answer to any of the names you suggest above. Choose whatever you feel most comfortable with! -- PL
Hi Pete, just wanted to say thanks for answering my question in the previous ask PL. I havn't been able to get online for a while.
ReplyDeleteAll of those ideas were so tantilising (even if they are unlikley) I love the idea of Raph with Wolverine, The Thing, Daredevil, Spidey and Batman. The Don and Tony Stark idea is Brilliant. I was just thinking Captain America and Leo could be interesting too.
Sorry to go off topic Pete and everyone else I will vanish without trace now ;o)
The Rat King was one of my favorites, he should've been in the 2nd movie.
ReplyDeleteI have read about how much the early TMNT comics parodied and were influenced by Frank Miller's "Ronin" title so I was wondering; since the Ninja Turtles have become a major property have you ever had the opportunity to approach Frank Miller about doing a TMNT story? Is this something that you have considered? I was also wondering if you knew if the live-action TMNT movies were ever going to be released on blu-ray.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Aron G.
I liked the hulking leech monster from the original series, the fish men. and leatherhead. Awesome characters that were massively underused. Shredder would be more awesome if he hadn't died so quickly but the plan wasn't for an ongoing thing. The mutated shredder clones were very cool though.
