Blast from the Past #703: Sketchbook page 48, another look at the proposed "Fifth Turtle"

This is the last page in the sketchbook, and the drawing on it is very likely my last attempt to come up with a design for the proposed "Fifth Turtle".

I kind of like this drawing, but in all honesty, I'm glad this movie never got made. -- PL

  1. Thanks for posting the sketchbook! It's always cool to get a peek behind the curtain.

  2. Hmm~ It looks a bit weird for me without the kneepads, but the Predator-like design is really fitting.

^^ Thanks for spending time on scanning and posting your sketchbook for us.
I wish you and your family all the best for the New Year!

  3. I hate to say it,but I agree with you. Unless its Slash, an evil opposite I am not interested in "5th turtles".

The news of James Avery's sudden passing just hit. I must say he was/is my favorite villain though I know your opinion differs. I was wondering if you ever met him.

    1. I just heard about his passing, too. No, I never met the man, but I have to say he did a great Shredder voice. I'm glad the TMNT documentary crew were able to interview him a year or two ago. -- PL

  4. Hey, PL. I just saw a youtube video where you were demonstrating the duo tone boards that you and Kevin drew the first TMNT comics on. I was actually wondering, what kind of brush did you and Kevin use to ink and tone your comics?

    1. I can't really speak for Kevin, but I used a variety of different brushes, with my favorites being the smaller ones with synthetic fibers -- I think I recall the name of those as "White Taklon". I suspect that was a trade name for the type of fibers in the brush. I liked them because they seemed to have a springiness that the natural fiber brushes did not, and they also seemed to hold up better. -- PL

  5. "Valentina Rosa has left a new comment on your post "Blast from the Past #703: Sketchbook page 48, anot...":

Is there any truth regarding the rumours of bringing back Mona Lisa in the 2012 TMNT series? That would be awesome, Raph would love it! (literally)
PS: sorry for my English, I'm still learning it. "

Your English seems fine to me. I'm not involved in the ongoing TMNT animated series, so I have no idea if Mona Lisa will be making an appearance therein. -- PL
