Shreddant

This is an odd thing... I found it while browsing through some folders of old TMNT-related stuff on my desktop Mac. I drew and colored this to illustrate a concept under discussion for use in the abandoned Hallmark TMNT tv movie project back in 2003. I'd have to go back and read that script to be absolutely sure exactly what part this critter was supposed to have played in the story, but I vaguely recall something about an "astral plane avatar" or something of that ilk. It's a weird-looking thing, but I kind of like it! -- PL

  3. -->> ..one more bit::

    The coloring, your digi colors are very remenicent (sp) of alot of th classic work you created. Similar to the effect of the airbrushed pieces.

    That style has transported well into your digital work for lack of a better way to put it.

  4. I don't remember sculptures, but I DO remember a test Video Pete mentioned about how the Splinter Costume was supposed to work and had an actor doing ninja moves in it. If any of these things exist, you should have someone at Mirage upload it to you tube.

    Will we ever hear the full story as to why this project was abandoned and how it came up in the first place?

  5. Oh, and one more thing. Murph, I think it was, posted an early design sketch for Baxter Stockman on his blog. It was supposed to be a caricature on Doc Brown, which now makes allot of sense ;).

    Do you have any other old concept art pieces of the original series? Like Turtle Lair designs, Portal Chamber looks, Dimension X concepts, Android bodies, etc?

    If there is ALLOT of material still around, I'd love a book published on it, along with interviews on the making of the old show. THAT would make a cool 25th item.

    Neil, I may have some of those things buried in my archives, though I doubt I have much of it -- the bulk of that stuff just didn't hold a lot of interest for me, especially as they years went by and I went through several periods of trimming back my collections of stuff. For instance, I used to have a huge pile of copies of storyboards (essentially bound sheaves of hundreds of sheets of 11 by 17 paper with the storyboards copied onto them) that were just taking up too much space, and ended up being recycled.

    There may be more stuff like that in the Mirage archives (such as they are), but I'm really not sure exactly what. Maybe MWS kept a lot of that stuff. -- PL

    There are some cool things left over from that unfinished project that I would love to post. The test of the rough Splinter costume is WICKED cool, especially... and there are several beautiful Turtle maquettes that we sculpted to help develop the look for the movie. However, I believe there are some rights issues which may prevent me from posting any of that stuff. I haven't asked about it in a while... maybe I should do so. -- PL

  8. Yes, Pete please check on the rights for the hallmark stuff. I've always wanted to read the script and find out as much about the project as possible. Thanks!

  10. Ha ha! Another image to add to my alternate Shredder archive. Thank you Mr. Laird!

  11. You might want to see about getting the rights to that stuff. An army of Shreddants in the 4Kids cartoon might be neat...they could eat the lair...

    Er...Shredder Termites....Sheddermites...

  12. GAK! You recycled 'hundreds of storyboards'?! Throw them on Ebay. BTW, the critter looks like a Kirby creation from the Donatello One Shot.
