Some of my stuff is up for sale... or will be shortly!

I mentioned some time ago that I was planning to winnow down my hoard of TMNT comics and stuff, and over the last couple of days I have started to make good on that promise. I spent a number of hours in the storage area under my studio going through things, throwing some crap out and putting other stuff in piles to give away. And then I found a carton of these that I didn't know I had:

Some of you may remember this beautiful limited edition Leonardo bust sculpted by the talented A.C. Farley. They've been sold out for quite a while, but when I found this carton I realized I didn't really need all these, so I brought them in to Mirage today and asked Katie to work with Dan to put them up for sale on the Mirage website. I think there are about a dozen of them, and I am not sure exactly how much they will cost. (Note: I believe these are all the unpainted white resin ones.)

Then I moved on to my boxes and boxes of multiple copies of old Mirage TMNT comics. I am planning to only keep a few of each one, except for the first printings of the very early issues. I have not yet gone through all of the comics, but so far I have this stack of boxes ready to be taken down to Mirage and sold through the website:

There are copies of pretty much every Mirage TMNT book, I think (though I can't offhand say exactly how many), with the exception of first printings of TMNT #1 (I'm keeping all my copies of that one). Hopefully, I can get somebody to help me load these into the truck (Dan? Gary?) and get them down to Mirage in the next few days. -- PL

UPDATE 11-5-2010: I ran into Dan Berger at Mirage yesterday, and he informed me that ALL of the Leonardo busts have been bought already! Crazy fast.

  1. I remember seeing the original of that Farley Leonardo bust in your studio. It was just beautiful. He is such a talent, not only as a sculptor, but as as a penciler/inker and painter.

I should have commissioned an Usagi from him.

  2. Wow! Looks like I might finally get to fill in some of those holes in my collection. Any idea on how the comics will be priced?

  3. (salivates as the jurassic park theme plays in my head.)

hell yes!I cant wait til mirage is back.

dang,That bust is really upscale comapared to most turtle merchandise. I like the poster AC Farley did also...the backgrounds look alot more like new york than most turtles merch.

Cool stuff man.and the best part is its the Mirage Turtles.Even when they werent my favorite,Mirage version merchandise was always just cooler,i dont know why.(maybe cause its visually less cartoonish...)

theyre like in their 30s or early twenties.not Teenage anymore.

  6. Oh man, I gotta get me one of those busts. I wanted one back when they first came out and I let it slip thru my fingers. Not this time!

A.C. Farley was one of my favorite artists back in the 1990s. His work deserved a much bigger audience.

  8. Good news. Hoping I can pick up some/most/all of the issues I'm missing. Might even get one of those busts if they're not too pricey. :)

Peter has stated before that it still stands for teenage, even though they are well past that era of their lives. I believe he said he didn't want to go through a name change or anything and he thought any other type of name would just seem awkward.

    I was wondering the same.

And thanks, Pete, for doing this. I know it would have probably been easier just to get rid of it, but giving the rest of us an opportunity to grab some more of the stuff we love is really great of you.

  13. Alrite, that means I'll have to visit the Mirage site on a daily bases for the next couple of days :)

Your really have some great stuff there Pete!

I don't think there are any of the big collections (the first fifteen issues), but I think I have included some of the later collections.

It's probably going to take Katie a little while to go through what I will bring in and ascertain what, exactly, is in these boxes.

I was planning on bringing them in today, but we are having a steady rain right now and it probably makes sense not to risk any of the comics getting wet.-- PL

That I don't know. I'll try to remember to ask Katie. -- PL

Adam, we'll probably be pricing the books according to the values in a price guide that Dan sourced. Here are some examples of some of the prices in that guide. Note that these are not yet the set prices -- they may be, but it's not carved in stone. They could be the same, lower, or higher (though I would say not very much lower or higher). It should give a good "ballpark" estimate of what we will be charging. Sorry to be this vague, but we're still working out the details. -- PL

  18. Hey Pete,
Just curious as to how many copies (ballpark) of the first print TMNT #1 you have?

I understand they are not for sale, but it would be helpful to know how many are not "in circulation"

I know I counted them at some point in the past, but I don't recall now the exact number. I think I may still have about twenty of them... far fewer than I WISH I had held onto! -- PL

  21. I can help move some boxes. If you can tell me where to get Vol:1 Issues #50 & Issue# 51! I can't find them anywhere. Of course you would have to pick me up somewhere down RT.9 in Central MA. (the Brookfields)
But, I like going to North Hampton, haven't been out that way since I helped my sister move into UMass. ;)
All kidding aside, could you please point me towards issues 50 and 51?

  22. Hi Peter,

I notice the collected Tales of the TMNT vol 1 is on eBay, but doesn't ship to Australia. Will this be the case with all your sale items. And is it unchangeably the case with this one?

    regards,
    Scott
