Fugitoid news

While there may be one or two of the limited edition vacuum-metalized Fugitoid figures on display at the San Diego Comicon this week, sadly, it appears that there will be none available for sale there. Fans who want one of these shiny robots will have to wait a little bit longer.

However, progress is being made, and here are a few photos to prove it.

What you see here is one of several samples that we received from Playmates a few days ago -- not many, but enough so that Mike Dooney, Dan Berger, Eric Talbot, Jim Lawson, and my brother Bruce each now possess one of these beauties.

I'm happy that Playmates revised their packaging plan, which was originally to just package each 'Toid in a plastic bag. Instead, they have wisely opted for that bag PLUS a molded two-piece plastic "cradle" that offers much better protection for the figure. Thanks, dudes! -- PL

  1. That packaging has mail away written all over it, I LOVE IT!

The question is now though...since they aren't going to be releasing the Mirage figures what are we going to have to get the Proof of Purchase/reciepts from? Will it be from the last wave of 25th rereleases?

  2. definitely one of the coolest Playmates toys I've worked on. What the heck, I think that they should vac metalize everything! The pose came off really well I think. Not having to deal with articulation etc really makes for a faithful rendition of our favorite verbose-a-bot.

  3. And here is was hoping that a few of the Fugitoid statues could leak out for some of us lucky attendees to grab. Guess we'll have to stare at them and wait ;)

  4. So... The information being passed along via Playmates to the websites selling these is that it DOES have articulation.

I think a lot of people are going to be upset if they sell these as being articulated and open them up to reveal they don't.

Are these still being planned with no articulation?

I'm curious as to the actual substance of the "information being passed along via Playmates to the websites selling these". I find it hard to imagine that Playmates is telling anyone that these figures will be articulated, as it is very clear when you look at them that they are not.

While I suppose it is REMOTELY possible that someone from Playmates is passing along erroneous information about this figure's articulation, it would seem to me somewhat MORE likely that someone is misinterpreting what Playmates is saying. Not being privy to whatever words have passed between Playmates and the websites in question, it is impossible for me to say with absolute certainty. -- PL
