Blast from the Past #138: Garbageman's "Whale Sub" sketches

(Hopefully this is not another repeat posting like that last one!)

I can't recall which episode of the 2K3 show this was done for, but 4Kids had sent me a piece of art for a vehicle that Garbageman was going to use. Unfortunately, I can't find it right now, so you can't see what it looked like, but apparently I wasn't happy with it, and did my own version, as seen here. The first drawing shows the "Whale Sub" with its grasping tentacles retracted, and the second shows those tentacles extended.

And here is the final model art as rendered in color by the artists at 4Kids. -- PL

  1. -->> Superior ..

    i preferred ,G-man's second appearance and design, the "Captain Ahab / Love Boat thing " really worked and kicked so much ass.

    He was a real fun villain. I do hope he comes back.

    That ship is so damm, Rad, Pete .. looks like Doc Otto Octavious was the engineer for Garbage Man at the time !!

  4. It's nice to know that you are so involved in the show, instead of just "handing it off."

  5. Hi. Im a big fan of TMNT and one of my dreams is to draw my own comic books.

    Now I'm reading the comics provided by the ninjaturtles.com site, cuz I'm only 16 years old and here in Portugal we can't find a lot about TMNT :( We've got the tv programs and the toys, but no comics. Some days agor I found in a bookshop a TMNT comic, it's "called out of the shadows" and its pretty recent.

    By the way, I want to thank you and Kevin for your best creation: the turtles! Be sure you make my days with your invention!

    At last, I thinking about some story around Slash, the turtle (comic character). I want to know your opinion about that turtle, about Slash's personality and design.

    Thanks a lot! Again and again. I could never thank you enough.

    P.S. I love your blog!

    Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you like my blog. Have you been to the official Mirage TMNT website at www.ninjaturtles.com? There is a lot of interesting stuff there.

    As for Slash -- I really don't know that much about him. If memory serves, I think Kevin Eastman may have done a drawing of a "bad Turtle" that was used as the basis for development of the Slash character, but I could be wrong. I'm pretty sure he appeared first in the original TMNT animated series and was subsequently made into an action figure. -- PL
