Free Comic Book Day at Shellback Artworks, May 7, 2016!

I had a nice lunch with Eric Talbot today, and afterwards handed over to him two drawings I did recently, both of which he had agreed to apply his amazing inking talents to. One of them -- this group shot of the Turtles --

-- is intended to be used as the basis for an 11" by 17" color print (with Steve Lavigne colors!) which will be offered for sale at Steve's Shellback Artworks store in Wells, Maine on Free Comic Book Day, which is on May 7 this year (less than a month away!). Eric has also agreed to appear along with me and Steve at Shellback on that day. Yahoo!

If all goes well, and the ink flows readily, we might even have a second 11" by 17" color print available that day -- based on this drawing:

... featuring Leonardo in a life-and death struggle with a malevolent tree spirit! I don't know who will be doing the colors for this piece, but I think it will likely be Eric. I can't wait to see what he does with the inks on these two drawings! -- PL

  2. I'm glad you're going up again and sorry I'm missing FCBD this year. But I'm gonna be flying up in June for a bit so hopefully I'll catch you then!

The pages look great, I can't wait to see them done!

  3. Haha I bet Leo is thinking "This is the last time I try to be one with nature!".
Those pieces look great, id love to go up to Maine to see all of you but unfortunately this year it doesn't seem doable. Still, I hope you guys have a great time!

  4. WHOA!!!! That Leo piece is great. I really love the tree creatures you posted a while ago. So cool seeing my favorite turtle in on the action.

Can't wait to see what Eric brings to it. One of, if not the best TMNT inkers.

  6. Dear Mr. Peter Laird,

My name is Darin. I’m an avid fan of your work, and have especially enjoyed reading through your blog postings here. I would love to meet you at FCBD this year, but unfortunately I can't make the drive out.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Jim Lawson (such an amazing guy) at a convention in Louisville, KY sometime last year. He was kind enough to put together a collaboration piece, which is linked below this message to you. Consequently, I haven't been able to track down any other means to connect with you aside from your blog (perhaps that is by design, to which I add....) Please forgive the informality of this message to you.

My humble, and hopeful, goal is to have each artist from Volume 1 contribute. Ideally, I would like two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the top two panels, as well as the bottom two panels of the piece, then Splinter and Shredder in the middle. When the artwork is complete, I will try to connect with Mr. Steve Lavigne to color everything in. It would be a distinct honor to see your rendition of Donatello on one of the top or bottom 2 panels. If it’s not too much trouble, I would also love to have the Volume 1 style logo at the top of the piece.

Is there any hope that I could get this in your possession somehow? If you tell me where to send it, I would be happy to cover shipping both ways, as well as compensation for your efforts.

    Hope all is well, sir.

    Your humble fan,
    - Darin

  7. Those pieces both look amazing. I'm hoping to come up for FCBD this year. With some luck, I'll be able to see the finished product(s) firsthand.

  8. Pete,

What happened with the Leo print? I was really bummed I didn't see it there. I absolutely love the way this looks as is too.
