Lots of little Turtle heads

A couple of days ago I found myself in my office at Mirage, with about half an hour before a conference call, and decided to sign the rest of one carton of Fugitoid collector figures. Actually, I don't sign the figures -- just the boxes. Dan Berger usually asks me to do this a few at a time, as we get orders, so I thought it might be good to get ahead of the curve a little bit.

When I sign the boxes, I do a quick little Turtle head sketch on each one, and as I put them back into the carton after signing them all, I thought it looked kind of cute -- all those little white boxes with little Turtle heads on them.

So I took a photo. -- PL

  1. I happen to have one of the signed Fugitoid figures. I think the little turtle head is cute as well. I wish I had the autograph in the green ink though, I think it looks the most cool :P

  3. I have one of those signed in a display case right next to me! Playmates definitely ended the second run of TMNT figures with a winner...although what really sold me on ordering one was all the photos you took of him in various environments, and your Christmas tree of course. ;-)

  4. I loved the Fugitoid Christmas tree pictures. All that silver actually looked really nice on the tree. I have one of these figures that I ordered of Mirage's web site. The box has your signature on it with the turtle head. I also have a couple comics with your signature and the turtle heads. My son thinks it is so cool that you draw a little turtle head with your sig. I think it's pretty cool myself. ;) Just out of curiosity why do you sign the Fugitoid boxes with different colors? I'm planning on taking the family to Northhamton today for the "Paint and Pixel Festival". I can't wait to meet some of the guys from Mirage. Dooney, Lawson, and Berger are going to be there. My son is just as excited as I am. It should be a really fun day for us. You Mirage folks are always so kind!

  5. Tony, I have seen this before, and it is pretty cool, and ambitious for a fan project. I'm not all that crazy about the design changes to the Turtle (I really don't like it when people try to make the plastron look like some kind of musculature, and there is something about the head/bandana that looks weird to me), and the staging of the action is kind of awkward and clunky in spots. Maybe it's the editing. But I liked the lighting. All in all, it's a neat thing. -- PL

It's really just because I have a handful of different-colored markers in my office, and I get bored with the same color after a while, so I switch them.

That should be a fun event. Have a good time! -- PL

  7. I'm proud to say I own one of the "Fugirelics" version of this. The turtle head is it generic or is it supposed to be a specific turtle like say your personal favorite Donatello?

Thanks Mr. Laird, We had a fantastic time. My son, who now has a bunch of little turtle heads on his green Ninja Turtle hoodie, is on cloud nine right now. He had a great time! The whole family did. Like I said before, you folks at Mirage are always so kind. I have one happy kid right now. Thanks again Mr. Laird, you are a really good guy!

Often, when people ask me that question, I tell them "It's whatever Turtle you think it is!" But you're right -- it is a generic Turtle head, even to me. -- PL

That was your son? Cool! I didn't expect to do any signing -- I just stopped by to see a few friends and wish Sean and Peggy the best with their first "Paint and Pixel" event -- but it's hard to turn down a kid in a Turtle hoodie, especially when Mike Dooney shoves a marker in your hand and says "Sign this!" Glad to hear you had a good time! -- PL

Yes Sir that was my son Devin. He is very pleased right now. I noticed you where there but, out of respect, I did not want to bother you. I figured you where not there to sign anything. I try to be respectful of peoples boundaries. Even if I am giddy like a little kid inside because I'm standing next to Peter Laird. I have to admit, I did get a chuckle when Mike Dooney asked my son if he wanted Peter Laird to sign his hoodie then walked over and handed you the marker. My son was speechless. You made his day. Right now the hoodie is hanging on display with his "Ninja Turtle collection" as he calls it. It is now the centerpiece. I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to sign it for him. I really appreciate that. In my sons words "Today is his best day ever." It was great seeing all of you guys. That Michael Dooney is not only one heck of an artist but, he is a really cool guy. I hope you had a good time and, took some great pictures today.

  12. I'm seriously considering buying one of those Fugitoids, though I'm currently not working at the moment. How long do you think they'll be in stock?

Hard to say -- I haven't tracked how fast they have been selling -- but I would guess for at leas the next three or four months. That's just a guess, not a guarantee. -- PL
