"March of Dimes" benefit drawings

A few weeks ago, Murph gave me (and several other Mirage artists) a sheet of card stock pre-printed with "March of Dimes" info, and asked if I would do some art on it so that it could be auctioned off along with other similar pieces to benefit the "March of Dimes". I only managed to get to it today.

I was planning to pencil, then ink, but then I decided to throw caution to the winds and just draw directly in ink. That's always a crap shoot (at least for me), as it doesn't allow for the planning that penciling does. But I think they came out okay, although the Fugitoid looks a little too much like a monkey for my tastes. -- PL

  2. Hi Mr. Laird,

This is my first time posting a comment to your blog, but I enjoy seeing new posts almost every day.

I had a question: Will you be putting info up soon about the auction if it's online, or will it be at a physical auction?

Also, if it IS an online thing, are your drawings all on one card, or will it be split up into 8 different drawings?

Thanks for any help, and keep it up. Your posts and the way you interact with your fans are amazing.

  3. I agree with Stephan, Splinter looks sick! Also really dig Shredder.

Is there a reason that you decided to do these with red ink?

  5. As McD's might quote "I'm loving it"... out of interest, how will the auctions be conducted?

Actually, I think the marker I used was a shade of brown, though it does seem to have some red in it.

I decided to go with this marker after seeing Eric Talbot do some of his head sketches in the back of copies of TMNT#30 with one -- I thought it looked nice. -- PL

I'm not really sure HOW the auction will be held. I'll try to remember to ask Murph, but maybe Dan Berger knows. I suspect it will be an online thing, but I could be wrong.

As for whether the art will be auctioned in one piece or cut up into the individual cards, I think it is the former, but again -- I could be wrong. -- PL

  8. -->> Think Toid looks pretty decent , personally.

    Casey is unique to.

I believe the cards will be 'cut up'

..in fact i don't think these will be sold at auction at all.

  10. I love the Casey Jones one! He always seems to be left out of artwork... it's nice to see him get a card also.
