I have this troubling feeling that I've posted this one before... but I did a quick search on this blog and couldn't find it. So maybe I'm just confusing it with another drawing. In any event, if it is a repost, my apologies.
This is a drawing that, very likely, I did while bored at a convention. Jim Lawson inked it in his style of the day (this was back in 1986), which, if memory serves, involved use of the famous Tombow roller-ball pen (a tool much beloved of Mirage artists of that time). -- PL
Nice! Don't recall seeing this one appear here before either. I still think it's cool to see how the Turtles have evolved visually over time. Everyone drew them in a distinct style, but there was a familiar look across the board. Now everyone has their own completely unique way of presenting them, and I really love that!
ReplyDeleteYou know I was reading through the big collected book the other night, and I think I've got to the point now where I can see where you and Kevin switched roles as artists. I used to just read over it and the whole thing was just a blur in the enjoyment, but looking at your art now and all this sort of stuff that you post here, it's easier to pick up all the little nuances in your own work present in the collaborations.
I don't remember seeing this one before. It's a cool piece, though. I love seeing the really old turtles art from the 80's.
ReplyDelete-->> .. you guys are right, this is fresh ..
ReplyDeleteDefinitive and reflective of your guys' ' 86 - 87 - ish era. OI WOW !!
You guys still use Tombows pens at all ?! ?!
Cool. I agree all of the artists at Mirage have had their styles evolve and become a lot more distinctive. I love seeing the old stuff. Just order TMNT #30. Hopefully I will get a sketch cover.

Dave, I haven't used one in years. I can't speak for the other guys, but I suspect that is true for them as well. -- PL
Nice work Pete, it's good to see your drawings. Any chance that at some point you'd do an issue, not as a writer, but an artist. Be an interesting turn about for an issue of Tales. :D
ReplyDeleteHere is my "Blast from the Past/Brush With Greatness" combination...maybe you have better images of the work you did for us (in 1983!)...Sorry I missed you in Rochester!

I love it when yourself or Kevin inks Lawson... I almost prefer it over you and Kevin's art together.
