I remember starting this drawing on a big piece of illustration board at a convention, just for the heck of it, then taking it home with me to finish inking it later. It’s another “Donatello in jeopardy” drawing, of which I have done quite a few... usually featuring some kind of wacky alien or robot (this one is a bit of both, I think). -- PL
Love the Blast from the Past posts. Keep 'em up! On a slightly similar note I ran into this article today at Comingsoon.net...

That's awesome that there are talks about it going 'dark.' The general concensus in the comments say to go the way of the comic book route... Is that the plan if this movie does indeed get past the talking stages? Personally I'd love a new TMNT movie that looked similar in style to Sin City. It'd be all kinds of awesome!
-->> ..again i hope everyone can see 'Kirby' right there in the villain !!
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering ..if Don is a character that Pete has illustrated more than any other.

It's great to see more art on the blog and less photos of me.
ReplyDeleteWhat, is EVERY talented person camera shy, despite the fact they take better pictures than I do? ;)..
ReplyDeleteThis guy looks like he could be a good Tales Villain. He almost looks like a Sea-weed Monster/Robot. Although it sometimes makes me wonder what two ideas Pete was having when he drew it, as it is sort of an odd but cool look for a character ;)..

LOL...Now Peter should scetch Eric and put it up. Best of both worlds!
I love these blasts from the past.
ReplyDeleteYour illustration of the turtles has always been my favorite style. I could look at postings like this all day.
This is one of my all time fave drawings, get Dooney to paint it and it'd be Gold.

Lol, if you did an artbook of all "Donatello in jeopardy" drawings, I would be the first in line to buy it. Seriously, these are some of my favorite drawings.
ReplyDeleteI do wonder if Don is still your favorite, especially now that you are writing Vol. 4 yourself?
I just wonder because I know I have my 'soft spot' turtles (Don and Mike), but often my favorite depends on the day I'm having. And the older I get, the more often I find myself liking Leo.
I wonder if there's a lesson in psychology to be had from that...

This is a great peice. I actually always loved seeing Don in action, becasue to me he was the perfect combo of brains and brawn. :)
ReplyDeleteI've always loved your alien and robot creations. I believe that the Donatello one shot may be the best comic of all time.
