Heroes Con, Day 2
I'm just about ready to head over to the Charlotte convention center to start day two of our sojourn at the Heroes Convention. Yesterday -- Day One -- went very well, I think. People were friendly, we were busy but not inordinately so, and I sold a bunch of prints and portfolios, and did quite a few head sketches. (I even met someone who has posted comments on this blog under the handle of -- I hope I get this spelling right -- "Michelangelo-Sama", who seemed like a real nice guy.) And, in the absence of our good friend Steve Lavigne (who, sadly, could not make it down to this show, and we miss him), Eric Talbot is collaborating with me on head sketches -- I draw them, and he will color them if desired, in his inimitable style.
Above is a (slightly blurry) shot I took early yesterday of Dan, Mike and Jim setting up at our table. -- PL

ReplyDeleteThose look so cool!
Congrats on a successful day one. I hope you have a few portfolios/sketches left over to sell at the official site.
I want to stick an "Ask Peter" question in here. I had asked Stan Sakai if Usagi would be appearing in the newest version of the toon, and he said yes, in a few brief cameos, etc... and the aborted two-parter of Fast Forward with Space Usagi came up, and he had said it was a shame it wasn't made and how good the story seemed and the art as well. So, is there any way that you or Murphy could post at least a synops or a few storyboard pics of what that would have been like (or at least get 4Kids to maybe do it at their site?)?
Cynthia, envying you all.
Congrats on a sucessful day!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that it was busy, but not too bad. I'm sure the fans were super happy to get that much more time with you!
If you have any leftover prints, please put them on the Mirage website!
I would love to buy them!!!!

Sorry about the double post here, but.....
ReplyDeleteWhenI was admiring the picture witht the banner, this question popped up. Who did the art for them? Was it all one artist, or were there different ones? Also, why do they have the "old school" belts as opposed to the "clip on" ones? Is it a mix of new and old?
Awesome either way!

Cynthia, I hadn't thought about that story in a while, but your comment has made me think that it might be possible to see it published in some interesting fashion... perhaps in an "Unseen Tales of the TMNT" -type comic which could adapt stories which were written for the TV series but which for whatever reason never made it to air. Hmm... I wonder if Stan Sakai himself would be interested in drawing it? -- PL

I did the art (at least the black and white drawings; I'm not sure who colored them) for the banners a couple of years ago. I think we had them made specifically to take with us to the first New York Comicon. As for why I did the old style tied belts... I really don't remember. Perhaps I was in a nostalgic mood. -- PL

If I have to work for the next 30 years just to finance such a thing, I would willingly do so.
Okay-- I'll drop the fangirl stuff-- but honestly, and I don't want to sound stupid, if there were something I could do to help such a thing happen, I would!
And I'll shut up now.
Cynthia again
Mr laird,
ReplyDeleteI met you at the show and you signed a TON of books for me. Thanks again for being so nice! I hope you guys will make the trip back to charlotte next year :)
Thank you for the kind words Peter. It was great getting to meet you Dan, Michael, Jim and Eric. You guys really made this die hard turtles fan feel welcome. I really enjoyed getting to chat with you guys. I really hope that you guys come back to HeroesCon next year, hopefully my wallet will have recovered by then. I hope you guys enjoyed the con as much as I did. If I wasn't pumped for the 25th Anniversary already, I am now more than ever.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tokka ;) I will be emailing Dan the convention pics I took over the weekend today.
It's awesome to have a job that is actually play.
